About Berkessel Photographic Design

A graduate of the University of Georgia's renowned fine arts program, Juergen studied Photography in Athens, GA and in Cortona, Italy. Prior to moving to New York as a commercial photographer in the mid 1980's, Juergen was classically trained in the history of the photographic process under Prof. Wiley Sanderson, and has since evolved his art form from expert pinhole photography through traditional media to today's digital media.

He freelanced with several Manhattan photographers before taking on a permanent understudy role with Henry Ries, well known for his photography of the Berlin Blockade and his use of a large format camera technique called "Heloptix", a form of early special effects motion photography involving up to 170 exposures on a single piece of 8X10 sheet film.

In the early 1990's Juergen embarked on a career in computer programming and information technology, which enabled him to be involved in digital imaging, related software applications as well as digital photography from the very beginning. With the advent of ever more capable computers and higher resolution cameras, Juergen has been at the forefront of digital photography as a viable art form and medium.

Today Juergen enjoys his rich experience in both commercial and art photography as a basis to coach and teach others.
